A man involved in a deadly Beech Island shooting on Monday has been charged with a felony drug charge only as the investigation continues, Aiken County authorities said.
Dimitri Carter, 31, of North Augusta (mugshot), has been charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana.
The charge is connected to Monday’s shooting death of 40-year-old Quincy Bernard Brigham (pictured at right). Authorities say Brigham was shot several times and was found dead at 252 Church Road in Beech Island.
Deputies arrived to find Brigham dead and Carter who indicated that he was involved in the incident. Authorities say the incident is believed to be drug-related.
Sheriff’s Capt. Eric Abdullah said he investigation continues into the shooting.
Both Carter and Brigham have a long history of drug activity in the area.
Carter was just arrested in July for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute but as bonded out the next day. He also has several felony drug arrests dating back to 2009.
Brigham has at least two felony drug convictions in Richmond County and was given probation in both cases. He was convicted of dealing cocaine in 2006 and was sentenced to eight years of probation. In 2013, Brigham was charged with trafficking cocaine and pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in return for a sentence of 12 years of probation.

District Attorney Ashley Wright has released a defense of this week’s probationary sentence for a couple connected to the death of Martinez infant Bentley Reeves.
Last summer, authorities said they believed a Martinez baby was intentionally suffocated by his mother’s boyfriend and filed murder charges in the death of the 6-month-old boy. Lexis Russell and boyfriend Jacob Harris were both charged with murder in connection with the death of the 6-month-old boy.
At the time, authorities said they believed Harris suffocated the baby because he was tired of hearing the child screaming and crying. The couple were also charged with drug offenses related to the meth, marijuana and spice that was found in the couple’s trailer at 4222 Wheeler Road.
In an email to WGAC’s Austin Rhodes, Wright addressed news this week that Russell was sentenced by Chief Judge J. Carlisle Overstreet to just seven years of probation and drug abuse treatment after pleading guilty only to the drug charges. (She was on probation for felony convictions for forgery and drug possession.) In addition, Overstreet sentenced Harris to seven years of probation. He did not have any previous felonies.
In her statement to Rhodes, the District Attorney explained that the mother’s murder charge was dismissed at a preliminary hearing last year due to a lack of probable cause.
“The male defendant’s warrant was bound over to Superior Court in a separate preliminary hearing. It remains pending at this time,” Wright said. “That hearing adduced the following: there is no apparent cause of death for this infant, whose little body showed no evidence of disease or trauma. The cause of death is undetermined, which can have many implications (both criminal and non-criminal).
“The only evidence that the defendant committed an offense is from a jailhouse informant,” Wright continued. “He stated that the male defendant made a statement to him that he had suffocated the baby. His report does not match that of the mother or the boyfriend who were present in the house. As that warrant against the male defendant remains pending, I cannot offer any further insight at this time.”
As to the drug charges, Wright said the factual situation is similar.
“The officers responded to a call based on the child’s death. Upon arrival, they found evidence outside the residence that there had been drug usage and recent manufacturing,” the District Attorney said. “A small amount of methamphetamine was found. There was a witness who indicated that the same child had been present during a manufacturing process in the past. But there was nothing that corroborated that, including a negative toxicology screen of the baby during the autopsy process. The Sheriff’s Office made charges of possession of and manufacturing of methamphetamine in the presence of a child based on this reported information and the items that they located during their search. These are the charges that have been sentenced this week.”

The second robber in the deadly Subway hold-up has been caught and positively identified, The Jail Report has learned.
Brandon James Simmons, 25, of Durham, N.C. (pictured), has been named as the second suspect. Later, Simmons was fingerprinted and the return on the prints show him as Howard Maurice Harris, 23 years old, with a North Carolina probation violation warrant on drug charges.
According to authorities, shortly after 3 am Monday, Richmond County Deputies responded to the Courtyard Marriott located at 1045 Stevens Creek Road in reference to a suspicious person and found Harris.
“(Harris) had a possible medical episode and was transported to the emergency room at Augusta University Medical Center,” a press release says. “(Harris) was also found to have a small quantity of methamphetamine.”
Investigators learned of Harris’ encounter with Law Enforcement and began following up. Harris was later linked as a suspect in the deadly Subway robbery attempt.
The Subway restaurant on Gordon Highway was held up by two men Sunday, but only one man survived after employee Kovedia Williams pulled a gun and fatally shot one of them. That robber was identified as 24-year-old Cornelius Harrison of Greensboro, N.C. (shown at right), a man with a long criminal history.
In an exclusive interview with The Jail Report, Williams said she was shown a line-up by detectives Monday and has positively identified the second shooter who came into the Augusta Subway on Sunday.
“He’s in custody. I can breath again,” said Williams.
Williams pulled her gun and shot at Harrison moments after the second robber hit her 14-year-old son on the head with a crow bar, causing an injury that required three staples. She said she wishes she had shot the man who hit her son, but that man got away. But he is now in custody, she said.
A sheriff’s report says the dead robber was found in the woods, but the second robber got away.
Harris has been booked into the Charles B Webster Detention Center where he was charged with felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Aggravated Assault, and Felony Murder.
Stay tuned for more details in this case, and make sure to read this week’s edition of The Jail Report for our exclusive interview with Williams.

Billy Franklin Treadwell learned not to run from the cops early Friday morning – the hard way.
He did though and a Richmond County Sheriff’s deputy fired his taser. Franklin went down hard on his left side and his head in the parking lot of the Roadway Inn and Suites. He ended up at Augusta University Medical Center where he was treated and now has a huge bandage on his face and head, a report said.
For more crime stories like this, pick up this week’s edition of The Jail Report.
In the Treadwell case, a deputy saw him sitting on the side of the motel at about 4 a.m. with a beer and lots of stuff around him. Treadwell claimed he was waiting on his girlfriend to come out. The deputy asked if he could go through the items and began searching.
In a purple bag, that Treadwell said was his girlfriend’s, the deputy found a hypodermic needle cap and a clear bag with white residue. The deputy asked the man if he had any drugs on him and he said no. The deputy began patting Treadwell down and noticed a large bulge in his boot, the report said.
Treadwell said he didn’t know what was in his boot, but when the deputy reached down to get the item, Treadwell took off running. The deputy followed, drew his taser and fired. Treadwell went down and he was cuffed.
In the purple bag from his boot, he had a hypodermic needle, spoon and a small black container with . 5 grams of methamphetamine. Treadwell, 38, of the 1900 block of Flintwood Drive, Augusta, was charged with misdemeanor obstruction of a law enforcment officer and possession of meth, the report said.
